Up Close and Avian Feeder Videos

March 7, 2012

Hannah Walker, who works in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s multimedia department, recorded these two videos at her backyard feeders.

First up: Chickadees and Titmice

You may have seen this second one on the Cornell Lab’s Facebook page.  This is about as close to a Pileated Woodpecker as you can get!

Pilated Woodpecker: So cool! Been about 10 yards from one once in the forest above my home. This was great to see. Thank you.

The Chickadees and Titmice are always fun to watch. The Pileated however – OMG it was like the calm before the storm in a horror movie. My heart definitely skipped a few beats when it announced it’s presence. Thanks for sharing!!!!

Loved these! My 11 year-old daughter smiled and said, “Jump scene!” when the woodpecker flew up!

I wish I had titmice – they are SO cute. I have lots of black-capped chickadees and they love my peanuts in the shell. They carry an entire peanut off! Looks hilarious.

And I love the personal shot of the pileated; I’ve only seen them at a distance. Persistent little guy!

Michael – love the variety at your feeders!
