When Bushtits attack! Birds go crazy for peanut butter

February 18, 2011

Weighing in at less than 6 grams, there is little that a Bushtit can do to intimidate. In fact, they look downright adorable in this video featuring FeederWatcher Shanna Rendon in Grand Junction, Colorado. Shanna’s husband David Smith is the videographer. If the background looks familiar, David and Shanna hosted the popular FeederWatch Cam that streamed live images of the birds at their backyard feeders through the FeederWatch website for the past two years. The cam is currently migrating north to a new location in Ontario.

Bushtits can be found throughout the West from southern Mexico to southern British Colombia. They tend to form large flocks in the winter and visit feeders for peanuts, peanut butter, and suet. If you are a Bushtit fan, check out this recent FeederWatch blog post photo, or visit the species account on All About Birds.
